What are regular cannabis seeds?

Regular seeds are the result of a male plant pollinating a female plant, with no feminisation process involved. Statistically, around half of the plants will be female and half male. Before feminised seeds existed, every grower used regular seeds, and many experienced growers still prefer them today.

If your only goal is to harvest buds with as little effort as possible, feminised seeds are usually the better option. But if you want to breed your own strains, select the best phenotype or keep a mother plant for clones, regular seeds are hard to beat.

How to grow regular seeds

Grow regular seeds like any photoperiod strain, but keep an eye on your plants when they start to show their sex, usually in the first weeks after switching the light to 12 hours. Males develop small pollen sacs, females show white hairs (pistils). Unless you want to make seeds, separate the males before they release pollen. Are regular or feminised seeds better?

Neither is better in every case. Feminised seeds are more practical for harvesting buds; regular seeds are essential for breeding and preferred by many growers for mother plants.

What percentage of regular seeds are female?

Roughly 50%, although it can vary from batch to batch. Plan to germinate a few more seeds than the number of female plants you want.

Are there regular autoflowering seeds?
