Durban Poison is the most widely grown African variety in the world. It is a pure Sativa from the city of Durban, South Africa. For us it is undoubtedly the easiest Sativa to grow indoors, almost unique for its very short flowering period. It also enjoys enormous popularity among outdoor growers in areas with short summers.
Durban Poison or simply Durban is a 100% Sativa strain never hybridized, so it maintains all the charm of the original variety that can still be seen growing in the valleys and plains near the port city of the same name.
There are many banks that offer it, such as Sensi Seeds, Dutch Passion or Nirvana. It is also an excellent breeding material for growers who decide to make their own seeds, especially in crosses with other Sativas, as it shortens the flowering period.
In pages like Seedfinder, it is one of the Sativa genetics with the best opinions. That’s because so many growers can’t be wrong.
How to grow Durban Poison
All growers agree that our Durban is possibly one of the easiest Sativa strains to grow indoors and outdoors. In fact, it was the first Sativa adapted to outdoor cultivation in cold Holland.
Outdoors, if it has enough space, it will grow to a great height of up to 3 meters. Its structure is bushy and dense, with thick branches that can barely support the weight of the buds.
The flowering time surprises even the most experienced grower. No other Sativa is harvested at the end of September. Most pure Sativas are harvested in late October or early November at the earliest. And in areas with short summers, its cultivation is unthinkable.
If you want to get the best yields indoors, our advice is to go for SCROG cultivation. Due to its ease of branching, it will cover large areas in a few weeks. If not, we recommend a growing period of no more than 30 days.
From the change of light to flowering, you will be able to harvest in only 8 to 9 weeks. At this stage the odor is penetrating and the use of a carbon filter is recommended.
Characteristics of Durban Poison
The buds are round, large and covered with a thick, shiny layer of resin. Extract lovers will enjoy making a very psychoactive hash.
The flavor and aroma is delicious and complex. Growers often appreciate spicy, aniseed, licorice, lemon and spice notes that activate the taste buds with every puff.
Its high THC and low CBD level will provide you with a stimulating and invigorating effect, without paranoia or anxiety. In high doses the effects are more sedative. Therapeutically, we find it very appropriate to treat depression, stress and anxiety.
In larger plants germinated in early spring, yields can be exaggerated, up to a kilo of dry buds per plant.
Indoors it is also a wonder and with a good lighting system you can easily get between 550 and 650 grams per m².
