How to store cannabis seeds

Knowing how to store cannabis seeds long term is essential to ensure the successful germination and sustainability of genetic strains. No one wants to spend money buying seeds and lose most of them when starting the crop. Today we explain everything you need to know to store your cannabis seeds from Bulk Genetics the best possible way.

Many growers buy only the number of seeds they need to grow, but in some cases it is possible to end up with seeds that will not be grown in the coming months. This may be the case when you buy seeds in bulk to take advantage of cheaper prices, or for growers who produce their own seeds using regular bulk seeds.

Although it is best not to store seeds for too long, as they may lose their germination power, cannabis seeds can be stored for several years under optimal conditions. We have recently germinated seeds more than 7 years old with a 100% germination rate. To achieve this, it is necessary to respect certain rules that will allow you to know how to properly store cannabis seeds and thus be able to grow all the genetics you want.

Two basic things to know how to store cannabis seeds

The following tips on how to store cannabis seeds are valid for any type of cannabis seeds. Thus, the same treatment will have to be applied to feminized, regular or autoflowering marijuana seeds in bulk.

To store cannabis seeds, it is essential to store them in a dry environment and away from direct light. Humidity is the number one enemy of marijuana seeds, as it can favor the development of mold and fungi that can compromise the germination and quality of cannabis plants. Therefore, it is recommended to store the seeds in an airtight container, such as a glass jar, with desiccant bags to absorb moisture.

Temperature is also an important factor in the storage of cannabis seeds. Too high a temperature can cause seed degradation, while too low a temperature can affect germination.

The ideal temperature for storing cannabis seeds is 41-45 °F, the temperature you'll usually find in a refrigerator, so the crisper drawer is an ideal place to store your cannabis seeds.

Other things to keep in mind for the conservation of your seeds

A little advice from Bulk Genetics: don't forget to mark the bags or jars where the seeds are stored with the date of harvest and the variety of cannabis. In this way, a record is kept of the age of the seeds and their origin.

There is nothing more frustrating than finding a bag of seeds without knowing the variety or age of the seeds. Labeling lets you avoid disappointments during germination or cultivation, and know exactly what to expect from those seeds. Knowing how to store cannabis seeds long term is essential for a successful crop, but the grower will need to be a bit organized so as not to experience disappointing crops.

When it comes to germinating cannabis seeds, it is important to take them out of the refrigerator and let them reach room temperature for a few hours before starting germination or planting. If the seeds have been in the refrigerator for several months, it is also possible to soak them in water at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours before planting them in soil or germination medium.

One thing to keep in mind is that even with proper seed storage, if the seeds are of poor quality or not harvested at the optimum time, germination may not be assured. Getting quality seeds and storing them correctly is essential to ensure proper germination of your marijuana seeds.

In summary, the most crucial thing to keep in mind in order to know how to store cannabis seeds is to store them in a dry environment, away from direct light and at an optimal temperature of 41-45 °F. If you follow these three simple rules, you are assured of maximum germination.

We hope this article has helped you to know how to store cannabis seeds in optimal conditions for a successful germination and an equally successful cultivation.
