Northern Lights is an old Afghan indica that was bred in California and brought to Europe by Nevil Schoenmakers. Over time it became a cornerstone of Dutch genetics and the basis for countless classic hybrids.
It is one of the most widely reproduced varieties in the world, and growers hold it in the highest regard. Here you can get its seeds at the cheapest price.
It is one of the easiest plants to grow and is famous among indoor growers for its low odour. It stays at a height of under 110 cm, so it is also very discreet on terraces, balconies or small gardens.
All autoflowering varieties behave in a similar way: they grow for around 3-4 weeks and then begin to flower, regardless of their size or how many hours of light they receive.
The growth phase is so short that the plants should not suffer any stall, like the one that sometimes follows transplanting. What growers usually do is use a large pot from the very start, filled with a nutrient-rich substrate.
From germinating the seeds, the flowers will be ready in 65-70 days. You can bring in up to 3 consecutive crops over the whole outdoor season.
It produces large, very compact and extremely resinous buds. It is the ideal plant for making a delicious, authentic Afghan hash.
The aroma is very subtle during the grow, but once the flowers are dried and cured it becomes more intense and complex. You will pick up sweet and honeyed, peppery, herbal, earthy and spicy notes.
The effects are those of a proper indica: after a few tokes you will feel something like a giant, warm and cosy hug. It is the perfect genetics for relaxing at night in front of the telly. Or at least trying to watch it.
Production is very high. Indoors, anyone can reach 550 grams per m² with a 300-350 W LED setup. Outdoors, you will easily get 200 grams per plant from the largest specimens.
